CONCORD NH. – On Monday, August 15th, the fourth installment of the 2023 NEPGA Stroke Play Series concluded with a three-way tie at Concord Country Club. Greg Kelly, PGA (Myopia Hunt Club), Jeff Martin, PGA (Wollaston Country Club), and Jim Fairbanks, PGA (Riverside Municipal Golf Course), all shot remarkable 3-under 67s to claim a share of first place. A total of 70 players came out to battle the rainy weather in the fourth Stroke Play Series event of the year.
Kelly began his round steadily with two birdies on the front nine. He then further solidified his position on the leaderboard by adding three more birdies on the back nine. With two bogeys on holes 4 and 13, his last two birdies of the round sealed the deal. Kelly carded a birdie on the par-3 16th hole and par-5 17th hole.
Martin’s journey unfolded with him holding par on an impressive 15 out of 18 holes during his round. Intertwined with this consistent performance were three skillfully executed birdies, enhancing the tale of his accomplishments on the course.
Fairbanks’ front nine saw a minor setback with a lone bogey, but the back nine witnessed a big turnaround. He achieved a sequence of three consecutive birdies on the par-4 14th, par-4 15th, and par-5 16th holes, showcasing a display of prowess. Additionally, he carded a perfectly executed birdie on the par-3 12th hole to firmly secured his position in a tie for first place.
A quintet of PGA professionals found themselves in a shared fourth-place position. David Dionne, PGA (Beverly Golf & Tennis Club), Peter Ruymann, PGA (Marshfield Country Club), Frank Leja, PGA (The Club at New Seabury), Jason Calhoun, PGA (Brown University), and Frank Dully, PGA (Kernwood Country Club) all carded 1-under 69s to claim a share of fourth place.
