Lakeville, Mass. – Greg Farland, PGA (Marlborough CC) and Kirk Hanefeld, PGA (Salem CC) erased an early deficit to claim a come-from-behind victory over Matt Arvanitis, PGA (SNHU) and Shawn Warren, PGA (Falmouth CC – ME) in the 2022 NEPGA Pro Pro Match Play Championship at LeBaron Hills Country Club on Tuesday, May 10th.

Farland and Hanefeld, the tournament’s second seed, kicked off the semifinal round against Ed Kirby, PGA (The Aquidneck Club) and John Rainone, PGA (North Kingstown GC). The round was closely contested with Farland and Hanefeld finishing 2 up to claim a spot in the 2022 NEPGA Pro Pro Match Play Championship finals.

In the second semifinal match, Arvanitis and Warren took on Andrew Stolze, PGA and Frank Leja, PGA (The Club at New Seabury). Arvanitis and Warren claimed the 4 & 3 victory to move onto the final round with Farland and Hanefeld.

In the Championship Match, Arvanitis and Warren took a 2 up lead with a birdie on the first hole and making par on the second hole. Farland and Hanefeld tightened the match with a birdie on the fifth hole as Arvanitis and Warren sat just 1 up. After Arvanitis and Warren climbed back to 2 up over holes 6 and 7, Farland and Hanefeld made par on the 8th hole to tighten the lead once again. Hanefeld and Farland made the score all square with a birdie on the 10th hole.

Hanefeld and Farland took their first lead of the match with a birdie on the 12th hole to move 1 up. They parred 13 and birdied the 14th and 15th holes to pull ahead, 2 up. The duo clinched the victory with a par on the 16th hole for the 3 & 2 final over Warren and Arvanitis.

This was Hanefeld and Farland’s second Pro Pro Match Play victory together as a team, as they also took home the title in 2019.

“We had a lot of fun,” said Farland. “It was a tough couple days with the wind, but I want to thank Tom Rooney and everyone here at LeBaron Hills. The course is in great shape,” he continued. “It was a pleasure playing with Kirk again. He played outstanding this afternoon. It was a difficult two days, but we hung in there”.

“It was very difficult conditions and really tough to choose clubs,” said Hanefeld. “It’s always fun playing with Greg and we had a lot of success,” he continued. “We both compliment each other well and we look forward to playing again!”
