Mattapoisett, Mass. – The Bay Club team of Greg Yeomans, PGA and Ben Egan, PGA posted a best ball score of 63 (-8) while the Boothbay Harbor team of Chad Penman, PGA and Griffin Andrews, PGA matched that score to share the 2022 NEPGA Acushnet Golf Pro-Assistant Championship title on Monday at The Bay Club in Mattapoisett, Mass.
The Bay Club team carded six birdies and one eagle to get to -8. The team posted birdies on holes 3, 5, 8, and 9 to turn at -4 before adding two birdies and an eagle on the back nine for 32.
“For us, we got a little slow start,” said Yeomans. “Ben made some pars early for us to keep us going…I got a few birdies, and we really started to play off of each other which is important in a partners event,” he continued. “We kept the bogeys off the card which is key”.
The Boothbay Harbor team posted eight birdies on the day to finish with -8 as well. They posted two birdies on the front nine to make the turn at two-under before capturing six birdies on holes 10, 11, 13, 15, 16 and 17 for a six-under 30 on the back nine.
“The course played well,” said Penman. “I chipped in with a few pars and Griff made a pile of birdies which took us over the hump,” he continued. “We had a great start,” said Andrews, “no bogeys, and we kept grinding away, making a few birdies on the way in.”
The Bay Club team of Yeomans and John Paesani, PGA finished in solo third place after carding a five-under, 66 with 4 birdies, one eagle, and one bogey.
Six teams finished at -4 to claim a share of third place: Button Hole (Drury/Piekarski), Woodlands Golf Club (Murken/Claflin), Winchester Country Club (Salinetti/Hawley), Fall River (Shepherd, Brownrigg), Fall River (Shepherd/Irons), and Wanumetonomy (Jagoe/Maguire).
A total of 113 players competed in the Acushnet Golf Pro-Assistant Championship on a picture-perfect day at The Bay Club.
