What a difference a year makes. Last year the NHC/NEPGA Pro am at Wentworth by the Sea was played in 30 mph winds and cool temps. Step forward one year, the sun is shining, temperature around 65, and the course is in great shape. The wind did make an appearance and made the course challenging. Not a bad day to play some golf on the coast of New Hampshire. Thirty teams (120 players) stepped up to the first tee and teed off. Today team format is 1 BB gross/11 BB net combined, cannot be the same ball.
The Pro contest saw Jay Pollini of Ridgewood and Brett Smestad of Rochester come in with 74’s to tie for the top spot. Vince Molesky of Apple Hill came in with a 75 to take 3rd place. There were 3 players tied for 4th place all shooting 76. They were Mitch Jefferson of Rochester, Eric Sandstrum of Keene, and Todd Rollins of Laconia. There was also a 3 way tie for 7th place. Rico Riciputi of Coach Club, Dan Kish of The Indoor Golf Club, and Greg Sandell of The Golf Club of NE all shot 77. Finishing out the top 10 with another 3 way tie were Jim Gunnare Crystal Lake, Sam Cody of Stonebridge, and Tom Smith of Atkinson all shooting 78.
The team winners came from The Golf Club of New England led by Greg Sandell. His team came in at 9 under 131. His team consisted of Brett Wilson, Dan Fujimoto, and Nate Stavseth. Shooting a 7 under 133 was the team for Ridgewood led by Jay Pollini and his teammates Tim Melanson, Josh Johnson, and Greg Smith. The two teams from Rochester led by Smestad and Jefferson tied for the 3rdspot shooting 6 under par 134’s.
