BOYLSTON, Mass. – The 2019 New England PGA National Car Rental Assistants Championship heads to Pocasset Golf Club in Pocasset, Mass., Sept. 16-17, where the Section’s Assistant Professionals and Associates will battle it out over 36 holes of stroke play competition.

The field of 88 A-8s and Associates, will compete for an estimated $14,000 purse. Also up for grabs are six spots (and four alternates) in the 43rd National Car Rental PGA Assistant Professional Championship, held Nov. 14-17, 2019 at the PGA Golf Club, Wanamaker Course in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Five past champions will tee it up at the 6,525-yard, Par-72 Donald Ross course. Among those are defending champion Robert Bruso, PGA (Blackstone National GC), and three-time champion Shawn Warren, PGA (Falmouth CC). Bruso was the only player under par last year, winning at 2-under in the weather-shortened 18-hole event at Renaissance. Warren, who entered the championship as the two-time defending champion, having won in 2016 and ’17, finished T8.

Other past champions in the field include Jeff Seavey, PGA (Samoset Resort) who won in 2013, two-time (2012, ’04) champion Brian Owens, PGA (North Kingstown GC) and 2002 champion and 2019 Hudson Cup winner David Grygiel, PGA (Tee N’Tee Golfland).

Liam Friedman, PGA (Nashawtuc CC) and Seul-Ki Park, PGA (Winchester) both enter the championship with momentum. Friedman, who tied for third in 2018, has won the last two NEGPA Stroke Play Stroke Play Series events, and will look to defend his Avidia Bank Cup title at his home course at the end of the month. Park enjoyed a successful August on the course with a 4th-place finish at the Section Championship at the beginning of the month, before qualifying for both the inaugural United States Women’s PGA Cup Team and the 2020 KPMG women’s PGA Championship at the end of the month.

The tournament tees off at 8:00 a.m. on Sept. 16, and the field will be re-paired based on score for the final round on Sept. 17.  Be sure to check NEPGA.com for daily updates and follow us on Instagram (NewEnglandPGA), Twitter (@NEPGA) and Facebook (NEPGA) for real time updates and behind the scenes content.
