Dear Rhode Island Chapter Members,
It is with great pride that I announce the 2025 Rhode Island Chapter Award Winners, honoring the exceptional golf professionals who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, dedication, and passion for growing the game. This year, we are especially honored to recognize Matt Walsh, PGA of Warwick Country Club as the 2025 Golf Professional of the Year.
Matt’s journey in golf is a testament to hard work and resilience. Unlike many in the profession, Matt did not grow up playing competitive junior golf or attend a PGM program. Instead, he discovered his passion for the game later in life, working tirelessly to become the dedicated professional he is today. Since joining the PGA in 2004, Matt has served as Head Golf Professional at Cape Cod National, Mount Pleasant, and currently Warwick Country Club. He credits his success to leading by example and making his members feel welcome at the club.
At Warwick, Matt has established one of the strongest junior golf programs in the region, with over 60 juniors participating each season. His work in junior development has led many of his students to college golf and local state competitions, fostering a lifelong connection to the game. Under his leadership, the club’s PGA Jr. League team has flourished, creating a welcoming and competitive environment for young players.
Beyond his impact at Warwick, Matt has been an invaluable contributor to the Rhode Island Chapter and New England Section. He has served on various committees, volunteered at veterans, junior, and adaptive golf clinics through the Section. He has also played a key role in hosting events, including the first-ever Lil Rhody Week Pro-Am and the RIGA Amateur Championship, demonstrating his commitment to elevating golf in Rhode Island.
Matt’s leadership style is built on authenticity, integrity, and an unwavering dedication to his members, guests, and staff. His reputation as an engaged, down to earth professional has earned him the respect of his peers not only in Rhode Island but throughout the Section. His ability to create a welcoming environment and make every golfer feel valued is what makes him a truly exceptional PGA Professional.
In addition to honoring Matt’s contributions, we are proud to recognize the following award winners:
Please me in celebrating these outstanding professionals throughout the 2025 season and we look forward to officially honoring them at the 2025 Awards Banquet this fall.
Respectfully,
Nate Adelson, PGA
