WORCESTER, Mass. – 10 players competed at the Tatnuck Country Club in Worcester on Wednesday, October 1st where the wind blew for the New England Assistants’ Association (NEAA) Stroke Play #4 event. The day featured three Assistants shooting a 4-over 74 to tie for the win.
Founded in 1898, Tatnuck was one of the first 100 golf clubs established in the United States. The course features the beauty and challenge of a 9-hole Donald Ross designed course. Competitors played the track twice to play 18 holes. Tatnuck had an average score of a 78, including 20 birdies with four coming on the par-4 298 third hole.
Interestingly, the second easiest hole on the scorecard deemed to be the hardest hole for the field as it averaged 1.20 to par.
Tyler Adair of Abenaqui Country Club had a day with five birdies on the scorecard, finishing in a tie for first place. That gave Adair his second first-place showing in the NEAA schedule.
Alongside Adair on the leaderboard, Tobias Young of Willowbend Country Club started off hot with a 1-over 36 on the front nine with three birdies. He then finished his round with a three-over 38, paring the last three holes. Young totaled nine pars with three birdies.
Cam Kratovil of the Ridge Club began the day on fire with two birdies in the first three holes, wrapping up the front nine with an even-par 35. The Assistant then carded a 4-over 39 to finish in a tie for first with a 74.
A big thank you to everyone who participated, and a special thank you to head golf professional at Tatnuck, P.J. Breton, PGA. He dedicated time to talk with the field following the event about what it means to be an Assistant Golf Professional.
Next up, the NEAA will be traveling to Maine on Wednesday, October 8th for a event at Boothbay Harbor Country Club. Following that event, the NEAA and the board will be hosting its Fall Meeting at Wampatuck Country Club in Canton, Mass. before a stroke play event.
