RUMFORD, RI. – The New England PGA returned to Agawam Hunt Club for the second time in this 2024 season, as the club played host to the Rhode Island Chapter’s Pro-Am on Wednesday. It was a spectacular day in Rumford, with 16 teams battling the heat and their competition in 2 Best Ball of 4 play, and 14 Professionals vying for the Individual Professional title.

COMPLETE RESULTS

It was Scott Hickey (Cyprian Keyes GC) and Brendon Ray (Point Judith CC) who came out on top of the Individual Pro leaderboard, both working around the Donald Ross design with even par 69’s to secure a share of first place.

Hickey’s round got off to a fast start with two birdies and an eagle on his opening nine, but two late bogeys on 16 and 18 brought him back to level par for the day. Ray birdied two of his first three holes before three bogeys left him at 1-over through nine. After eight pars and a timely birdie on the 17th, Ray battled back to take a piece of the title.

Hickey and Ray were followed closely by Lou Rivers and John Simmons of Agawam Hunt, who represented the host club well by firing matching 1-over 70’s and finishing in a tie for third.

Simmons and his team wasted no time in capitalizing on home field advantage, shooting 9-under on their front nine before coasting to victory with an impressive 11-under, 127 total. Second place was shared by River’s Agawam Hunt team and Hickey’s Cyprian Keyes crew, who carded identical 63-66 performances to finish at 9-under and two shots out of first place.

Thank you to Agawam Hunt and Lou Rivers, PGA for being fantastic hosts. The Rhode Island Chapter is looking forward to the upcoming Chapter Championship at Point Judith CC on September 10th. Be sure to secure your spot in the field by clicking here!
