WORCESTER, Mass. – Vesper CC’s Rich Berberian played the final five holes at six-under to claim a two-shot victory over Liam Friedman (Nashawtuc CC) at the fourth Stroke Play Series event held Monday (Aug. 9) at Green Hill GC.

Berberian began the round with a birdie, bogey, and seven pars to make the turn at even par. On the back, he birdied 12 and bogeyed 13 to remain even before carding four birdies and an eagle on the par-5 16th hole to come in with 66.

Friedman kept his card clean with birdies on holes 3, 12, and 13 before an eagle on 16 to get to -5 for the day. The Nashawtuc assistant carded his first bogey of the day on 18 to finish with a 4-under 68.

Scott Hickey (Cyprian Keyes GC) posted a 3-under 69 to capture third alone. Hickey made the turn at -3 with birdies on holes 2, 3, 8, and 9. On the back, Hickey added another birdie on hole 12 and finished with a 36 for his 69.

Jeff Martin (Wollaston GC) carded a two-under par 70 for solo fourth. He opened his round with a bogey on hole 1 before birdies on holes 2, 6, 7, and 9 to turn at 33. Martin posted two more birdies, on holes 10 and 16, between bogeys on 11, 12, and 16 for 37 on the back and 70 overall.

Four professionals finished the day at 1-under 71 to share fifth place: Frank Dully (Kernwood CC), Patrick Kowker (Portland CC), Brendon Ray (Point Judith CC), and Jim Schouller (Abenaqui CC).

John Fields (Belmont CC) captured a skin with a hole-in-one on the 14th hole. The par-3 played at 143 yards Monday.

Dully’s round of one-under was good to win the Senior Division at the Stroke Play Series event. He edged seven professionals who finished at one-over par in the Senior Division: Greg Farland (Marlborough CC), Dan Gillis (Nabnasset Lake CC), John Hickson (Cape Neddick CC), Ed Kirby (The Aquidneck Club), Todd Scarafoni (Bass Rocks GC), and Bob Tramonti (Triggs Memorial GC).
