CANTON, Mass. – Tuesday, May 2nd the third iteration of the Skins Series Events was hosted at Blue Hill Country Club in Canton, MA. The day started with light showers before the assistants teed off. Thankfully the clouds held the rain back after the first three holes, allowing players to complete their rounds relatively dry.
The rain scared off any chances for birdies on the first three holes. Players struggled to get their bearings in the wet grass and showers. After the rain clouds moved on and the overcast rolled in so did Joe Delorey’s (The Bay Club Mattapoisett) putts. Hole four, a mid-range par three, Delorey hit a fantastic iron to the green and left himself with a twenty-foot birdie putt, which he made with ease.
Following the first birdie, Delorey proceeded to birdie holes five, six, eight, and nine. Attempting to stifle Delorey’s solid stretch of birdies, Max Doctoroff, PGA, and Jack Clemenet (Blue Hill Country Club) had birdies on holes five and eight. However, Delorey posted a spectacular round of -2 and three of his skins remained crowning him champion of the third Skins Series Event.
After the round, the players stayed and drew the seedings for the Individual Match Play Bracket. These match ups are now posted online at the New England PGA Assistants’ Association website. We are looking forward to our first championship, the Hudson Cup, on Thursday, May 11th at Marshfield Country Club. There is one more Skins Series Event for our Spring Season on Wednesday, May 24th at Plymouth Country Club.
