QUECHEE, Vt. – The Vermont Chapter was thrilled to kicked off its 2022 Pro-Am schedule this Monday at The Quechee Club’s Lakeland Course! This was the Chapter’s first visit back to the Lakeland Course since 2019 after making multiple stops at the Highlands Course.
David Bennett and his team from Country Club of Vermont came out victorious in the 2 BB of 4 Gross + Net competition with a score of 10-under 134! He was joined on the team was Mike Coakley, Dan Keene, and James Quinn. The foursome began the day on the 17th hole and made consecutive pars before rattling off back to back birdies on the 1st and 2nd holes. Their best stretch of the day came on holes 5 through 9 where they made three eagles and one birdie.
In second place with a score of 9-under 135 was the team from Williston Golf Club led by Toby Young. Young and company played a fantastic round, making three eagles and six birdies on the day. However, they were plagued by a stretch of three bogeys on holes 10 through 12 which ultimately left them 1-shot behind CC of Vermont.
In a four-way tie for third place at 6-under par were the teams of Lake Morey CC (Jim LeClair), Golf Garage VT (David Jankowski), Riverside Municipal Golf Course (Jim Fairbanks) and Cedar Knoll CC (Mike Slayton).
The individual professional competition saw 2021’s top two finishers in the Vermont Chapter Player of the Year race battle it out for the top spot. Golf Garage VT’s David Jankowski came out on top with a score of 4-under 68 edging out David Bennett by one shot.
Jankowski made the most of his opportunities on the par 5’s playing them to 4-under par. He led the field for the day in most par breakers with six (5 birdies, 1 eagle). The lone eagle of the day came on the par 5 15th hole. After dropping a shot on his second to last hole of the day, Jankowski made a clutch par on the 3rd hole to maintain the one-shot victory.
Finishing in third place behind Bennett at even par was Peter Weatherby (Manchester CC).
Thank you to The Quechee Club’s Director of Golf TJ Anthoine, Assistant Professionals Dustin Ribolini and Curt Goldsberry, and Superintendent Brett Bailey for being fantastic hosts!
