DAVID MOORE, PGA

Squirrel Run/Village Links

David Moore: I am a dedicated PGA Professional with over 40 years of experience fostering a passion for golf. Recognized as US Kids Top 50 Kid Teachers, 2019-2024, PGA Game Changer, 2014 CCNEPGA Professional of the Year, and 2023 NEPGA Youth Player Development Award. My career is built on a foundation of exceptional instruction, innovative program development, and unwavering commitment to growing the game. I am passionate about empowering golfers of all skill levels to reach their full potential and creating a thriving golf community.

Is there a personal cause or goal you would like to bring attention to?

My personal golf philosophy centers on fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment where any junior golfer, regardless of their background or skill level, can discover and cultivate a love for the game. I am deeply committed to providing accessible learning opportunities, whether through affordable lessons, engaging clinics, or mentorship programs that build a strong foundation in technique and etiquette. Beyond instruction, I believe in creating ample playing opportunities, from organized junior leagues and friendly competitions to simply facilitating access to the course. The goal is not just to teach the swing, but to instill a lifelong passion for golf, by empowering young individuals with valuable life skills, camaraderie, and the joy of playing.

What is the name of the organization or program you would like to highlight?

The Boys & Girls Club offers an enriching golf program, providing a fantastic opportunity for young members to learn and enjoy the sport. Twice a year, in the spring and fall, children receive six weeks of free golf instruction and access to golf clubs. We try to foster a fun and engaging environment where they can develop their skills, discover a new passion, and forge lasting friendships on the green. Beyond this introductory program, the club has also been involved with Project TEAM Works, bringing the positive influence of golf to troubled teens. This initiative offers these young individuals a chance to experience a different environment, where the focus and tranquility of the sport can provide a welcome and beneficial change of pace, evident in the enjoyment they find on the course.

How long have you been active with your charitable organization?

The charity we have been actively involved with, the one we founded in 2008, is Bottles and Cans for Kids. This was established with the specific goal of supporting junior golf within the Plymouth and Carver area. The charity focuses on providing essential resources to young aspiring golfers. A key initiative of Bottles and Cans for Kids is the provision of free golf clubs and balls for the Plymouth Boys and Girls Club, ensuring that financial constraints do not prevent local children from learning and enjoying the sport. This support extends to other junior golfers in the surrounding area as well, fostering a greater opportunity for youth participation in golf.

What is the most rewarding thing about giving back to the community?

The most rewarding aspect of our community involvement extends far beyond simply introducing individuals to the game of golf or organizing successful outings. It lies deeply within the genuine relationships we’ve cultivated. We have witnessed the blossoming of new friendships, the strengthening of existing bonds through shared experiences, and the creation of a true family atmosphere. These connections, this sense of belonging, are the enduring treasures I’ve gained through my efforts.

What other organizations do you support?

Our commitment extends to fostering growth and opportunity through partnerships with impactful organizations. We proudly support MGA Youth on Course, empowering young individuals through affordable golf access, and PGA REACH, the charitable foundation of the PGA of America, dedicated to positively impacting lives through golf. We are also enthusiastic supporters of the PGA Jr. League, a fun and engaging team-based golf program for kids. Looking ahead, we are honored to be hosting the PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) program in 2025, which introduces golf to veterans and active-duty military personnel. Furthermore, we actively contribute to various local school booster programs, recognizing the vital role they play in enriching our community’s educational and extracurricular activities.

How has giving back to the community helped to raise awareness of your facility?

Providing accessible golf opportunities and leveraging the golf course as a fundraising platform for local charities has significantly contributed to community engagement and awareness. The consistent efforts to offer golfing experiences to a wider range of individuals, coupled with successful charity events hosted at the course, have not only generated crucial funds but have also brought positive attention to both Squirrel Run and Village Links. These initiatives have fostered a sense of community spirit and made the golf course a recognized and preferred destination for groups looking to combine recreation with meaningful social impact, solidifying its role as a valuable asset within the local area.

How do you determine which charities to support?

We carefully select the charities we support based on a dual focus: their demonstrable impact on the game of golf and their positive contributions to our local community here in Plymouth. This means we prioritize organizations that actively work to grow the sport, whether through youth development programs, making golf more accessible, or preserving its traditions. Simultaneously, we seek out charities that address critical needs within our community, fostering a stronger and more vibrant local environment. By considering both the golfing landscape and the well-being of our neighbors, we aim to make a meaningful and well-rounded difference.
