SANDWICH, Mass- Players at The Ridge Club Pro-Am were treated to a beautiful spring day, with clear skies and ideal playing conditions- an anomaly in what has so far been a cold spring. The course was in excellent shape, setting the stage for great day for the Cape Cod Chapter.
Cape Cod National Golf Club, led by PGA Professional Gregg Richbourg, claimed the top spot with a stellar 9-under-par total of 133. Richbourg, along with Ray D’Arcy, Bill Stone, and Scott O’Connor, combined for a consistent and well-balanced effort to finish three shots clear of the field. The carded only a single bogey on the day to go along with six birdies and two eagles.
The host team from The Ridge Club, led by Matt Baran, PGA and joined by Mike Leary, Kate Hutchinson, and Sarah Robinson, took solo second at 6-under 136. Two teams tied for third at 5-under 137: James Cook, PGA and his team from The Cape Club group and another Ridge Club squad led by Eric Harbilas.
Four teams tied for fifth at 4-under 138, including groups led by Cam Kratovil (The Ridge Club), Zach Mahan, PGA (Hatherly CC), Ben Egan, PGA (The Bay Club), and Tom Tobey, PGA (Sandwich Hollows GC) rounding out a tight leaderboard.
In the individual professional competition, Ben Egan of the Bay Club at Mattapoisett earned low professional honors with a 2-over-par 73. Egan’s round was a tale of resilience, as he started the day 5-over through his first six holes before battling back to play the final twelve holes in 3-under par. Host professional Matt Baran followed closely with a 75, good for solo second. James Cook finished in 3rd with a 5-over 75 and Mike Roan finished in 4th with a 6-over 77.
