Greenland, N.H. – The New England PGA hosted the 2024 Portsmouth Pro-Am on Monday, May 13th at Portsmouth Country Club. 56 New England PGA Professionals competed in the event, bringing teams of amateurs for a total of 266 players in the field. The day was sunny and warm to start, but as the afternoon went on, the wind picked up, bringing in some chilling temperatures for the second wave of players.
Joseph Finemore, PGA (Portsmouth CC), Mitch Jefferson, PGA (Rochester CC), and Griffin Andrews, PGA (Griffins Golf School) tied for first place, shooting even-par 72s on the day.
Finemore carded four birdies on the day, all coming right in a row, on holes 1, 2, 3, and 4, for an impressive start, and held strong through the round for a share of the top spot. Jefferson put up two birdies on his scorecard today, both coming on the front nine, on par-5 holes 4 and 7. His only two bogeys came on the final two holes, ultimately putting him at a final even-par, 72, for a share of first place overall. Andrews carded two birdies on the front nine, but made the turn at two over with bogeys on holes 5, 6, 7, and 8. He had a strong showing on the back nine with four birdies including one on the par-4 18th hole to clinch the share of first place.
The scoreboard filled up with six individuals tied for fourth place overall. Chris Carter, PGA (Hillview GC), David Dionne, PGA (Beverly Golf & Tennis), Brett Smestad, PGA (Rochester CC), Dan Venezio, PGA (Portland CC), Todd Cook, PGA (Haverhill CC), and Todd Scarafoni, PGA (Bass Rocks CC) all shot just 1-over, 73s on the day.
Four teams tied for first place in the 2 BB of 4, 1 Gross +1 Net division. The Old Marsh CC team led by Shawn Warren, PGA, Derryfield CC team, led by PGA Professional Cory Mansfield, PGA, Portsmouth CC team led by Finemore, and the Rochester CC team led by Jefferson all shot 9-under (135).
