Lakeville, Mass. – The 2025 NEPGA, Johnnie-O Pro-Pro Match Play Championship kicked off on Monday, May 12th at LeBaron Hills Country Club. A total of 24 two-man teams teed off the 1st and 10th holes this morning with eight match play spots on the line. The four Match Play winners will compete in the Johnnie-O Pro-Pro Match Play Finals on Tuesday, May 13th back at LeBaron Hills.

The best ball stroke play qualifying round was headlined by two teams who shot 9-under, 63s to tie for the top seed: Curt Goldsberry, PGA (The Quechee Club) & Pete Weatherby, PGA (Green Valley CC) and reigning champions, Jeff Martin, PGA (Wollaston GC) & Eric Barlow, PGA (Winchester CC).

Frank Leja, PGA (The Club at New Seabury) & Jimmy Damiano, PGA (Salem CC) tied with the duo of Ed Kirby, PGA (The Aquidneck Club) & Robert Tramonti, PGA (Triggs Memorial GC) at 8-under for a share of second place in the qualifying round.

The team of Bob Bruso, PGA (Worcester CC) and Pat Beahn, PGA (Blackstone National) shot 6-under, 66, to claim 5th place and a spot in the Quarterfinal round.

Three teams tied for 6th place to round out the top eight, advancing to the Quarterfinal Matches. The team of Shawn Warren, PGA (Old Marsh) & Matt Arvanitis, PGA (SNHU), the duo of Steve Daly, PGA (Dedham Country & Polo Club) & Greg Kelly, PGA (The Bay Club), along with Brendon Ray, PGA (Point Judith CC) & Jake Leech, PGA (Walpole CC) finished at 4-under, 68s, claiming the final three spots to advance.

The afternoon shootout, an alternate shot winner-take-all event for the non-qualifying teams, saw the Marshfield CC team of James Antonelli, PGA and Alec Vozzella, PGA take the crystal.

The Quarterfinal Matches kicked off following a lunch break with the following seeds competing against each other:

  1. Martin/Barlow vs. 8. Arvanitis/Warren
  2. Damiano/Leja vs. 5. Bruso/Beahn
  3. Goldsberry/Weatherby vs. 7. Ray/Leech
  4. Tramonti/Kirby vs. 6. Daly/Kelly

Arvanitis and Warren move to the May 12th Semifinal Match with defeating Barlow/Martin on their second playoff hole of the Quarterfinal Match.

Bruso and Beahn defeated Damiano and Leja 1Up to advance to the Semifinal match.

Goldsberry and Weatherby were also in a tight match. They will move on to the semifinals on Tuesday, May 13th with their 2&1 victory over Ray and Leech.

The last group to finish was Kirby/Tramonti vs Daly/Kelly. Kirby and Tramonti earned a spot in the Semifinals with a 1Up victory to close out the day.

Tee times for the Semifinal matches will start at 7:30 a.m.
