Marshfield, Mass. – The New England PGA Section kicked off the 2025 Assistants Championship, hosting round 1 on Tuesday, September 23rd at Marshfield Country Club in Marshfield, Mass. This event is a qualifier for the PGA of America’s National Assistants Championship. The national tournament will be held on November 13-16, 205 at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, FL. The top 6 non-exempt eligible finishers in the NEPGA Assistants Championship will gain entry into the National Championship. Four alternates will also be identified.
Arthur Griffin (Eastward Ho!) and Liam Friedman, PGA (Wollaston GC) currently sit at the top of the leaderboard tied for first place at 2-under, 68. Chan Longfellow (Falmouth CC – ME) is close behind, at 1-under, 69 through the first 18 holes.
Griffin posted two birdies on the front nine, one on the par-5 4th hole and the other on the par-4 7th hole, making the turn at 2-under. A bogey on 10 moved him to 1-under, but he quickly recovered with his third birdie of the day, on the par-5 11th hole. Griffin, who enjoyed the set up of the par-3 holes a Marshfield today, posted a birdie on the par-3 16th hole to move to 3-under. A final bogey on the 18th hole put him at 2-under overall in the share of 1st place.
Friedman carded an impressive six birdies in round 1 of the Assistants Championship. He posted four on the front nine, on the 3rd, 4th, 7th, and 8th holes, making the turn at 4-under. He added two more birdies on 10 and 11, adding to his hot start, and jumping to 6-under with seven holes to play. Bogeys on 15 and 17 and a double on 18 left him at 2-under overall, sharing the top spot on the leaderboard with Griffin.
