Marshfield, Mass. – The New England PGA hosted the final round of the 2025 NEPGA Section Assistants Championship on Wednesday, September 24th at Marshfield Country Club in Marshfield, Mass. The day brought on-and-off rain storms, making for some wet and difficult conditions over the 18 holes of golf. 150 New England PGA Assistant Golf Professionals came out to compete in the two-day stroke play event, on the hunt for 6 qualifying spots in the PGA of America’s National Assistants Championship which will be held from November 13-16, 2025 at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, FL.

Heading into round two, Arthur Griffin from Eastward Ho! and Liam Friedman, PGA from Wollaston Golf Club were tied for first place on the leaderboard, shooting 2-under through the first 18 holes. Griffin claimed his first NEPGA Assistant Championship title, holding strong, shooting even-par through the final round to finish at 2-under over the 36 holes.

Griffin started the round strong with an early birdie on the par-4 second hole. He traded a bogey on the 6th hole for a birdie on the par-4 7th hole and made the turn at 1-under. He moved to 1-over with a pair of bogeys on the back nine, but a final birdie on the par-4 17th hole and a stellar putt to save par on the 18th hole gave him the final even-par second round score, and the 4-stroke victory.

“The course was in Championship condition,” said Griffin. “Greens were great, fairways were awesome, and rough was thick, so thank you to Marshfield and also thank you to the New England PGA for hosting, it was a lot of fun, thank you for the hospitality.”

Malcolm Oliver, PGA (Weston GC) who came into round 2 at T5, shooting 2-over in round 1, shot the low score of the day, the lone under-par card of the day at 1-under, 69, to finish in solo second place at 1-over overall.

Chan Longfellow from Falmouth CC in Maine was right behind Griffin and Friedman following round one, at 1-under, 69. He finished tied with Friedman in the third place spot on the leaderboard. They both finished at 2-over, 142, overall.
