PORTSMOUTH, R.I. – The New England PGA hosted the 2025 NEPGA Senior/Junior Championship on Monday, September 29th at The Aquidneck Club. It was a perfect day by the water in Portsmouth, R.I. as 50 New England PGA Golf Professionals came out to play 18-holes in teams made up of one Professional under the age of 50 and one player above the age of 50.
Kirk Hanefeld, PGA (LM) and James Damiano (Salem CC) took home the 1-stroke victory, shooting a combined 10-under, 61. The team of Todd Scarafoni, PGA (Bass Rocks) and Brendon Ray, PGA (Point Judith CC) finished just behind them, in solo second place, shooting 9-under 62.
Hanefeld and Damiano teed off on the 18th hole to start the day. They eagled their second hole of the day, the para-5, 1st hole. They went on to card three more birdies on their opening nine holes, two coming on the par-3 5th and 8th holes, and made the turn at 5-under. They added three more birdies and an eagle through the final nine holes to finish at 10-under overall at the top of the leaderboard.
Scarafoni and Ray started the day with a birdie on the par-4 third hole. They birdied three more holes, eagled the par-5 9th hole, and carded one bogey on the seventh hole to make the turn at 5-under. Four more birdies through their final nine holes put them at 9-under as a team to take home solo second place.
The host duo of Ed Kirby, PGA (The Aquidneck Club) and Matt Hillier, PGA (The Aquidneck Club), captured third place, shooting 8-under, 63. They finished the round with 8 birdies on the scorecard, six of them coming through the opening nine holes, with an impressive run on holes seven through nine.
