Hawley entered day 2 tied for first at 78, +7 with Kristen MacDonald, PGA (Thomson CC) after a strong performance at The Kittansett Club. She immediately went up four strokes after the first five holes and continued her consistent pace by shooting 2-over on the front nine. Hawley overpowered the Kittansett winds and the lightning greens at The Bay Club to secure her third straight NEPGA Women’s Championship, making her the winningest women golfer in the event’s history.

“The last month I haven’t been playing as well as I wanted to,” said Hawley. “[Kittansett] is a placement golf course so I had to pick my targets and hit it… One of the positives of my game is my ability to adjust to the speed of the greens. The greens here at the Bay Club are lightning fast, I would say that was an advantage point today”, she continued. “Kristen is a really good ball striker and I know her strengths, and I just knew I needed to hit the ball better and get the ball in the hole, thankfully I figured something out overnight!”

Franey entered the second round shooting his career low in the previous day at the Bay Club with a 73, +2, ending off with three straight bogeys. He immediately fired back with a birdie on hole 1 at the Kittansett Club, and finished off the front nine shooting 2-under. An even par back nine brought him to a career-low score of 69, -2 and soared to the top of the leaderboard where he shares first place heading into the final round.

Kelly had a near-identical scorecard in both rounds, with 3 bogeys and 3 birdies at The Kittansett Club, and then the same stats at his home course at The Bay Club. Kelly’s 1-under back nine pushed him to an even round on day 2, and hopes to keep the same consistency on day 3 as he looks to win the NEPGA’s most pristine event.

Jankowski’s rocky start completely shifted after a birdie on hole 7, and from then on he shot 3-under to close his round. Three straight birdies on holes 15, 16, and 17 were the exclamation point of his impressive performance, and plans to carry on his play at the Bay Club in tomorrow’s third and final round.

Rich Berberian, Jr., PGA (Vesper CC) and Ed Kirby, PGA currently land in second place, finishing their rounds at The Bay Club in round 2 and sitting at 1-over overall. They sit 1 shot back from the leaders and will compete for the Mahan Trophy on day 3.

The final round of the 105th NEPGA Section Championship starts on Thursday, September 4, 2024 at The Bay Club Mattapoisett. Tee times will begin at 8:00 a.m.

The tournament offers 14 qualifying spots (not including Rich Berberian, Jr. who is exempt) in the 2026 PGA Professional Championship which will be held from April 26-29, 2026 at Bandon Dunes in Bandon, OR.
