LITTLE COMPTON, RI — The Rhode Island Chapter of the New England PGA returned to the historic Sakonnet Golf Club on May 13th for its annual Pro-Pro. The winning score was shot by a familiar team as Ed Kirby and Matthew Hillier of The Aquidneck Club shot 6-under par 64 to secure the title for the second consecutive year.
After sharing the top spot in the 2025 event, Kirby and Hillier left no doubt this time around, pulling away from the field to win by a comfortable four-stroke margin. They got off to a blistering front-nine with a 3-under 31, which allowed them to dictate the pace of the tournament from the start. After posting a another 3-under 33 on the back-nine, their 64 stood as the clear benchmark for a talented field of professionals.
The battle for the runner-up positions was tightly contested. A two-way tie for second place at 2-under par 68 featured Edward Doherty and Jack Green of Black Rock Country Club, alongside the Worcester Country Club duo of Tanner Sliker and Brayden Gendron.
The host club was well-represented at the top of the leaderboard, as Sakonnet’s own Head Professional Matt Alwin, PGA, and RJ Soares carded a 1-under par 69 to finish in a tie for fourth place. They shared that position with Chris Hulme of Newport National and Pete Weatherby of Brown University. Rounding out the top finishers in a tie for sixth place at even-par 70 were the teams of Louis Rivers and Chris Walsh of Agawam Hunt, and Aaron Walker and Andy Lane of Worcester Country Club.
The Rhode Island Chapter extends a sincere thank you to Head Professional Matt Alwin, PGA, and the entire staff at Sakonnet Golf Club for their continued hospitality. We also want to express our gratitude to our dedicated partners for their support of the Chapter and its professionals: Callaway, Flash Weather AI, and True Linkswear!
