HYANNIS PORT, MA — The Cape Cod Chapter of the New England PGA visited the historic Hyannisport Club on May 20th for its annual Pro-Pro. On a day that showcased spectacular views of Nantucket Sound, local knowledge proved to be the winning edge as the host-club tandem of Dave Einstein and Alex Gage claimed the victory.
Einstein and Gage were models of consistency on their home turf, carding identical nines of 33 to finish with a 5-under par 66. Their steady play earned them a one-stroke victory over the New Seabury duo of Frank Leja and Andrew Stolze, who fired a 4-under par 67 to finish in solo second place. The performance of the day was further highlighted by Dave Einstein’s late-round heroics, as he recorded an eagle on the 310-yard par-4 18th hole to seal the win. Ben Egan and Jacob Leech also put together a strong performance, finishing alone in third place with a 3-under par 68.
While the leaderboard was tightly contested, the shot of the tournament belonged to Toby Young of The Kittansett Club. Young carded the very rare albatross on the par-5 6th hole, which plays to 520 yards from the back tees.
The leaderboard remained packed throughout the afternoon, with a two-way tie for fourth place at 2-under par 69 featuring the Oyster Harbors pairing of Jeremy Bershak and Tim Vopal, along with Toby Young and Ron Coiro. Further down the standings, four teams shared sixth place at 1-under par, including the Nantucket Golf Club duo of Dan Hatcher and Billy Hemstock, and the Worcester Country Club pair of Tanner Sliker and Brayden Gendron. The Chapter also saw a strong showing from other host-club professionals, as Tim Watroba and Charles Mallo carded an even-par 71 to finish in a tie for tenth place.
Beyond the competition on the course, the day was defined by the camaraderie that has become a hallmark of this event. Following the conclusion of play, attendees gathered at Baxter’s Boathouse for the post-round lunch. This staple of the Hyannisport Pro-Pro provided an opportunity for professionals to share laughs and stories from the course, further strengthening the bonds within the Chapter.
The Cape Cod Chapter extends its sincere gratitude to host PGA Professional Tim Watroba and the entire staff at Hyannisport Club for their continued support and hospitality.
Finally, we would like to express our appreciation to our dedicated partners for their support of the Chapter and its professionals: Matt Howard and Callaway Golf, Brendan Dugan and True Linkswear, and Sam Baxter and Baxter’s Boathouse.
