FALMOUTH, Maine – The New England PGA Section hosted Round 1 of the 106th NEPGA Championship and 6th NEPGA Women’s Championship at Portland Country Club and Woodlands Club on Monday, August 31.

Mitch Jefferson, PGA (Rochester Country Club) carded a 1-under 71 to take the early lead out of the Woodlands Club. Greg Kelly, PGA (Bay Club at Mattapoisett) and Ed Kirby, PGA (The Aquidneck Club), and Seul-Ki Hawley, PGA (Winchester CC) sit tied for second at even-par, 72.

Jefferson, Hawley, and Kirby all competed at The Woodlands Club for the opening 18 holes, while Kelly held the low score at Portland CC.

Danny Kish, PGA (The Indoor Golf Club), John Hickson, PGA (Northport Golf Club), and Kevin Franey, PGA (Meadow Book GC) are among the players tied for fifth place at 1-over, 73, with the championship field continuing to battle for position.

On the women’s side, Hawley leads the NEPGA Women’s Championship after firing an even-par 72. Marjorie Jones, PGA (Brookmeadow Country Club) sits in second at 10-over, 82, while Allison Mitzel, PGA (Wellesley Country Club) and Kristen Macdonald, PGA (Thomson Country Club) are tied for third at 13-over, 85.

Both championships continue as NEPGA Professionals compete for the titles and the opportunity to be crowned Section Champions. Players will switch courses for round two before a cut to low 60s and ties are made for the final round. NEPGA Professionals are also battling for 14 spots to compete in the 2027 PGA Professional Championship which will take place at Streamsong Golf Resort in Bowling Green, FL from April 25-28, 2027
