Lakeville, Mass. – The 2024 NEPGA Johnnie-O Pro-Pro Match Play Championship semi-finals and finals took place on Wednesday, July 10th, at LeBaron Hills Country Club. The opening rounds were held back on May 20th and four two-man teams returned on Wednesday to battle for the final Johnnie-O Pro-Pro Match Play Championship Title.
Competing teams included:
-Jeff Martin, PGA, and Eric Barlow, PGA;
-Robert Bruso, PGA, and Patrick Beahn, PGA;
-Jacob Leech, PGA, and Brendon Ray, PGA;
-Scott Hickey, PGA, and Chris Hulme, PGA.
In the semifinals, Martin and Barlow demonstrated their prowess as they decisively sealed their victory over Hickey and Hulme on the 15th hole, triumphing with a commanding lead of 5 holes won. Their precise shots and strategic play ensured a smooth path to the finals.
In the parallel matchup, Bruso and Beahn showcased their competitive edge on the 16th hole, securing their advancement over Leech and Ray with a solid performance of 3 holes won. Their strategic approach and great shots proved instrumental in clinching their spot in the finals of the tournament.
Later in the day, the finals unfolded with Bruso and Beahn pitted against Martin and Barlow. Through the front 9, Martin and Barlow took a one-hole lead. However, their advantage extended to two holes as they capitalized on their consistent play through the back 9.
On the 17th hole, Bruso and Beahn mounted a remarkable comeback, leveling the score. The tension escalated as both teams entered the final hole neck and neck.
In a thrilling conclusion, Martin and Barlow clinched the victory with a decisive shot on the last hole, winning the match 1-up. Their steady nerves and precise execution under pressure secured them the championship title, capping off a day of intense competition and strategic prowess.
