CONCORD, N.H. – The New England PGA Section hosted Stroke Play Series #5 at Concord Country Club on a beautiful August day. This is the final event of the series before the Stroke Play Series Finals on September 29th at The Club at New Seabury. The Stroke Play Finals will bring together the top point earners from the season-long NEPGA Stroke Play Series events (5), and Chapter Championships/Chapter POY Lists (6). Greg Kelly, PGA (Bay Club Mattapoisett) played an impressive 18 holes, finishing at 4-under, 66, to claim the top spot on the leaderboard.
Kelly carded two early birdies on back-to-back par 4s on holes 2 and 3. He traded a bogey on 5 for another birdie on the par-4 7th hole to move to 2-under. A bogey on the 9th hole, a 164-yard par 3, put him at 1-under par making the turn. Kelly caught momentum on the back nine, posting six pars and three birdies. He birdied the par-5 12th hole and par-4 14th hole. Although he was already 1-stroke ahead of the lead, he tallied one more birdie on 18 to push his lead to 2-strokes for the victory.
David Jankowski, PGA (Golf Garage VT) claimed solo second place with a 2-under, 68. He posted a clean scorecard through the opening nine holes and went on to post three birdies on the back, on holes 5, 16, and 17 and one bogey on 13 to finish two strokes back from the lead.
Rich Berberian Jr., PGA (Vesper CC), Kevin Rhoads, PGA (The Country Club) and David D’Agostino, PGA (Belmont CC) rounded out the top three, shooting 1-under 69s. Curt Goldsberry, PGA (The Quechee Club) and Allan Lockwood, PGA (Boothbay Harbor CC) finished at even-par 70 and tied for 6th place on the leaderboard.
