HUDSON, Mass.—The 2024 Massachusetts Chapter Championship was decided by extra holes as Greg Kelly triumphed over Liam Friedman in dramatic fashion after each professional shot a round of 1-over 71.
Charter Oak proved to be a tough test for the Mass Chapter’s best with no player breaking par for the day. Friedman got off to a great start, making birdie on his first hole followed by four straight pars. He then ran into a tough stretch to finish out his front nine with four straight bogeys to turn at 3-over 38. After that misstep he played a determined back nine, making birdies on the 13th and 18th hole to come into the clubhouse with the lead.
Kelly was able to work his way to the top of the field by limiting his mistakes, only making three bogeys during his round to go along with two birdies. After dropping shots on the 12th and 14th holes to trail Friedman by a shot, he made a clutch birdie on the final hole to force the playoff with Friedman.
The playoff was decided by Kelly who made birdie on the 2nd hole to secure his first ever Chapter Championship. In third place was Rick Karbowski who shot a 2-over 73. In a four-way tie for 4th was Seul-Ki Hawley, Shawn Durocher, Rey Garcia, and Todd Cook.
