Rockland, ME- Rockland Golf Club and Samoset Resort played host to two action-packed days of competition from August 4–5 for the Maine PGA Chapter Championship. Round 1 kicked off at Rockland Golf Club before the field moved to Samoset Resort for the final round.
In the marquee Maine Chapter event, newcomer Allan Lockwood of Boothbay Harbor Country Club delivered a masterful two-round performance. Lockwood wasted no time introducing himself to the Chapter Championship, firing a 6-under 30 on the outward nine, followed by a 2-under 34. Lockwood set a blistering pace in round one at Rockland with an 8-under par 63, building a slim one-shot lead over six-time champions, Shawn Warren of Bates College, who opened with a 64.
Lockwood maintained his composure through the final 18 holes at Samoset, firing a 67 to finish at 11-under par 130 and secure a two-stroke victory over Warren (64-68–132). Donald Roberts of Waterville Country Club took solo third place with an even-par 141.
Roberts’ even-par total of 141 was more than enough to capture top honors in the Senior Championship. After opening with a 3-under par 68 in round one, Roberts held off a relentless charge from newly crowned NEPGA Senior Champion, John Hickson of Northport Golf Club (71-71–142) to claim the Senior title by a single shot. Paul Champagne (Nonesuch River Golf Club) and Jeff Seavey (Goose River Golf Course) rounded out the top three in the Senior division, tying for third at 6-over par 147.
In the Super Senior Championship, Dan Gillis of Nabnasset Lake Country Club put together two solid rounds of 78 and 74 (11-over par 152) to earn a decisive nine-shot victory over Gregg Baker of Martindale Country Club (79-82–161).
The Maine Chapter extends its gratitude to host PGA Professionals Keenan Flanagan, PGA (Rockland Golf Club) and Daulton Wickenden (Samoset Resort), as well as their staff and facilities, for presenting both courses in exceptional condition for two days of championship golf.
