BOYLSTON, Mass. — The Massachusetts Chapter is proud to announce that Matt Lombard, PGA has been named their 2024 Golf Professional of the Year.
Lombard is the Head Golf Professional at North Andover Country Club, a position that he has held since the 2019 season. Upon being hired at North Andover Country Club in 2019, Matt was tasked with revitalizing the golf operation from top to bottom. In the five seasons since, he has made great progress in achieving this goal.
One area where Lombard has made significant strides is merchandising. Golf shop sales have increased significantly, with 2023 being the most successful year yet. Under his watch tournament participation has increased aided by new events, increased organization, and budgetary decisions to improve tournament infrastructure. A major change that he made in 2023 was switching the club championship to a Match Play format which was received with high praise.
Lombard has worked hard to restructure the instructional program at NACC. New camps and clinics have been created to increase member play and revenue for the club. 2023 saw a big rise in popularity in the “Sips & Tips” clinics designed for beginner women golfers. Each hour-long clinic includes wine and time spent on the practice facilities or on the golf course. For Lombard, the best part of most seasons is time spent with the junior golfers at the club. The crown jewel of the junior program being the in-house PGA Junior League.
Lombard has been an extremely involved member of the NEPGA and the Massachusetts Chapter over the years. He served on the Section’s Growth of the Game Committee in 2018 & 2019, the Tournament Committee in 2020 & 2021, and in 2023 he served on the National Player Engagement Committee and NEPGA Education committee. He frequently finds ways to give back through the game of golf, some of these efforts include participating in the Birdies 2 Benefit fundraiser and coaching the North Andover High School golf team.
Prior to receiving this award, Lombard was also honored as the 2022 New England Section Youth Player Development Award recipient.
Lombard is one of five individuals to earn recognition for their service and dedication to their profession as the Massachusetts Chapter announced its full slate of 2024 award winners. The Chapter looks forward to celebrating these recipients throughout the 2024 season and at the 2024 NEPGA Awards Banquet.
