HARVARD, Mass. — Sean Magarian (Worcester, Mass.) and Emma Abramson (Sandwich, Mass.) hold the 18-hole lead mid-way through the New England Junior PGA Championship at Shaker Hills Country Club in Harvard, Mass.

Magarian posted a 1-under par 71 in the opening round to lead the Boys division, cruising along with 15 pars on the scorecard to go with two birdies and just one bogey. He birdied two of Shaker Hills’ four Par-5s, including the 18th hole to post the only sub-par round of the day.

Abramson shot 3-over par 75 to grab a one-stroke lead in the Girls division on Tuesday. After a birdie on the Par-5 second hole, she carded four consecutive bogeys and six in a 10-hole stretch, but steadied the ship with seven pars on the back-9 and capped off her day with an eagle on the Par-5 18th hole to shoot 35 on the back and 75 for the day.

Jack Pepin (Plaistow, N.H.) is one shot behind Magarian in the Boys division after shooting even-par 72 on Tuesday, followed by Max Hutter (Weston, Mass.) who shot 73 and Colby Sanville (Wellesley, Mass.) who shot 74.

Gianna Papa (Foster, R.I.) is one stroke behind Abramson in the Girls division after shooting 76, and Mackenzie Whitney (Westminster, Mass.) is three strokes out of the lead at 6-over par.

The 36-hole Championship will wrap up with the final 18-hole round on Wednesday at Shaker Hills.
