MIDDLETOWN, RI-The RIPGA Championship at Wanumetonomy had a US Open feel to it, with Par being a tremendous score. There was a great turnout and roster of talented golfers (strong Aquidneck Island representation), but only one talented golfer was able to beat par, Bill Maguire – Head Golf Professional at Wanumetonomy used his course knowledge and fired a spectacular round of 1 under par-69 earning the $1,000 first place check. Wanumetonomy once hosted a USGA Amateur which Tiger Woods ultimately won, and praised the course’s short length, but extreme difficulty in tournament set up conditions.
During this Covid-19 2020 golf season of high stress, uncertainty, and long hours working it was fun to get out on the links and see and meet for the first time some RIPGA fellow golf pros.
