SANDWICH, MA — The Cape Cod Chapter season continued on May 6th at The Ridge Club, where competitors were met with an extremely windy day that created exceptionally tough scoring conditions on an already difficult layout. The swirling gusts tested the resolve of the entire field, but Zach Mahan of Hatherly Country Club managed to navigate the elements to sweep both the individual and team competitions.
In the individual professional division, Mahan posted a 6-over par 77 to secure the win. His performance was highlighted by a steady front nine that allowed him to distance himself from the field, eventually earning a three-stroke victory over Bob Miller of Cranberry Valley Golf Course, who finished in solo second with a 9-over par 80. Gregg Richbourg of Cape Cod National Golf Club followed in third place with a 10-over par 81.
Mahan’s success translated directly to the team competition, where he led his squad of Greg Egan, Tim Golden, and Bill Taylor to the top of the leaderboard. Competing in the Two Best Ball of Four format, the team fired a 4-under par 138, anchored by an impressive opening nine of 66. Their efforts earned them a five-stroke victory over the second-place team from Allendale Country Club, led by Bob Giusti, who finished at 1-over par 143.
The host club was also well-represented on the leaderboard. Head Professional Shayne Sakson, PGA, guided his team of Mike Leary, Sarah Robinson, and Kate Hutchinson to a solo third-place finish in the team event with a total of 2-over par 144.
The Cape Cod Chapter extends its sincere gratitude to Head Professional Shayne Sakson, PGA, and Superintendent Parish Pina, despite the challenging weather, the course was in excellent condition for our professionals and their guests.
