Norton, MA- It was a blustery day at TPC Boston, but that did not stop 64 players from teeing it up at the Massachusetts Chapter’s Pro-Pro 6,6,6. It was a welcome sight to see players back on the course in addition to returning to TPC Boston after the event was forced to be cancelled in 2020 due to COVID-19.
The first tournament of the season conducted by the New England PGA featured a unique format; 6 holes of fourball stroke play, 6 holes of alternate shot, and 6 holes of scramble. After what has been a long winter, the field was able to shake off the rust and play some great golf on a TPC Boston course that made it through the mild winter in excellent condition and provided a solid test for the Professionals.
Jeff Martin, PGA (Wollaston GC) and Todd Scarafoni, PGA (Bass Rocks GC) took home the overall title firing an impressive 4-under 68 across the three contests. Martin and Scarafoni separated themselves from the pack on the par 5’s where they made birdie in 3 of their 4 opportunities. The 7 birdies for the duo also lead the field for the day.
The best ball competition was won by Cameron Fossa, PGA (Wianno Club) and Eric Steindel, PGA (Wianno Club) who shot 3-under on holes one through six. Eric Barlow, PGA and Seul-Ki Hawley, PGA, both from Winchester CC came away victorious in arguably the most difficult format of the day- alternate shot. Barlow and Hawley were the only team in the field to shoot even par on the alternate shot holes seven through twelve. Finally, Connor Dupont, PGA (Hopkinton CC) and Zachary Mahan, PGA (Pine Brook CC) won the scramble competition with a score of 4-under par, narrowly edging out 10 teams who shot 3-under over the last six holes.
On behalf of the entire Massachusetts Chapter, thank you to TPC Boston and PGA Professionals John DelBonis and Kyle Montella, as well as Superintendent Tom Brodeur for hosting what was a fantastic day to kick off our season.
