MARSHFIELD, Mass.—Jeff Martin (Wollaston GC) carded a 3-under 67 at Marshfield Country Club to capture the 2021 Massachusetts Chapter Championship.
Martin held of Robert Bradley of Brockton CC who finished one shot behind to take solo second. Nabnasset Lake CC’s Dan Gillis finished in third place with a round of 1-under 69.
This was the first Massachusetts Chapter Championship title for Martin, who previously one four Chapter titles as a member of the Rhode Island Chapter.
Martin made his lone bogey of the day on the par 5 4th hole, but he quickly recovered making birdie on holes 5 and 7. After making the turn at 1-under 34, Martin added two more birdies on holes 11 and 15 to get to 3-under.
Bradley played a fantastic round making birdies on the 7th, 11th, and 14th holes. His lone bogey of the day came on the par 3 16th which ultimately left him one short of the lead.
Standing on the 18th tee with a one-shot advantage over Bradley, Martin hit his drive in the middle of the fairway. His approach left him short left of the green, from there Martin showed great composure. His chip left him with a tricky 5-footer, but he hit it right in the middle of the cup to complete the up and down and win the tournament.
Eric Barlow (Winchester CC) finished in fourth place and was the only player at even par with a round of 34-36-70. Rounding out the top five was Jake Kramer (Bass Rocks GC) and Shawn Scott (Long Meadow GC) who both finished at T-5 with rounds of 1-over 71.
