NANTUCKET, Mass.—The Cape Cod Chapter held the 33rd Annual Island Classic at Miacomet Golf Course this Wednesday and Thursday. The 27 teams made up of Cape Cod PGA Professionals and their members were met with grey skies across the two-day event, but that did not deter them from celebrating what is year after year the highlight of the Cape Cod Chapter schedule.

COMPLETE RESULTS

Round 1 of the tournament saw The Ridge Club’s Matt Baran and Sankaty Head’s Jake Bosse battle it out for the top spot on the leaderboard. On a day wet, foggy day where scoring proved difficult both players turned in great rounds of even-par to tie for 1st place.

In the Round 1 team game Jake Bosse and his team from Sankaty Head once again saw themselves in a tie for first place, this time with Greg Yeomans and his team from The Bay Club. Both squads fired scores of 10-under 134 in the 2 BB of 4 contest to share the Day 1 victory. In a close second place were the teams from Hyannis Golf Club and Sacconnesset Golf Club led by PGA Professionals Tom Rourke and Doug Errhalt.

Day 2 brought more of the same weather but saw a new group of professionals shoot to the top of the leaderboard. Ryan Payne (The Cape Club) and Tom Tobey (Sandwich Hollows GC) turned in the only under par rounds of the tournament each posting a score of 1-under 71. Payne’s strong play helped lead the Cape Club post the low score of round 2 team game, finishing at 13-under 131.

The highlight of the second day and possibly the tournament came from amateur Mark Palm (The Bay Club) who made his 3rd career ace on the par-3 15th hole. Palm knocked an 8-iron in the cup on the 152-yard hole. Congratulations Mark!

The overall 36-hole champions for both the individual pro and team game were both models of consistency throughout both rounds. Matt Baran finished as the top professional after back-to-back rounds of even-par 72, quite the feat given difficult conditions. Sacconnesset Golf Club (Errhalt) won the team event with a total of 19-under 269, narrowly edging out The Bay Club (Yeomans) by one shot. Congratulations to all the winning players and teams!
