NORTON, Mass. – The Massachusetts Chapter of The New England PGA kicked off the 2024 season as TPC Boston played host to the annual 6,6,6 Tournament on a beautiful April afternoon.
92 New England PGA Professionals convened at the former PGA Tour stop to participate in a unique early season format; 6 holes of scramble play, 6 holes of four-ball, and 6 holes of select drive/alternate shot.
Eric Barlow (Winchester CC) teamed up with Tom Tobey (Sandwich Hollows GC) to fire an impressive 7-under 66, a mark that was matched by Todd Cook (Haverhill CC) and Chris Young (Thomson CC) to secure Co-Champion honors. Each side signed for blemish free scorecards, making 7 birdies on the day.
Not far behind in a share of third place was a log jam of teams at 6-under 67, including the squads of Ronald Coiro (Tedesco CC) and Greg Kelly (Myopia Hunt Club,) Hunter Mountjoy (Dedham C&PC) and Brian Spitz (PGA Tour Superstore,) and Jeff Martin (Wollaston CC) and Todd Scarafoni (Bass Rocks CC).
Champions were also crowned in each of the three individual formats. Mountjoy and Spitz finished in a tie for first place in the scramble format with Scarafoni and Martin. Each team finished 4-under par for the six-hole stretch.
In Four-ball competition, Cleveland Golf’s Cory Yudkin and his teammate Josh Lacasse (Beaver Meadow GC) posted an impressive 4-under par finish to take first place. Their victory came behind 3 birdies in a row from Lacasse on holes 7, 8, and 9 to begin the Four-Ball portion.
Lastly in the difficult select drive/alternate shot format, Barlow and Tobey bested the field with a 3-under stretch on holes 12 through 18.
