A dry, breezy day, something rare these days, greeted the 25 teams that came to Derryfield CC in Manchester today to play in the NHC/NEPGA Pro Am. Many of the PGA Professionals, and lots of the ams, have good memories playing in many of the Junior tournaments that Derryfield has hosted over the years.

The Professional contest saw some good play today. Matt Arvanitis of SNHU came out on fire on the front nine. After the first nine holes he was 5 under par. He continued his hot streak on the back nine making 3 more birdies and no bogies to come in with a course record 62. He bested that record, held by his father Dan, by 1 stroke. Nice job Matt. Rich Berberian Jr. of Vesper, came in 2nd place with a great round of 5 under 65.  Brett Smestad of Rochester CC came in early with a round of 2 under 68 to end up 3rsd. Nick Desjardins of Nashua came in at an even par 72 to end up 4th. Rounding out the top 10 were Geoff Williams plus 1, Chris Mowers, Dan Kish, Cory Mansfield, & Jon Ellis all came in with 73’s to tie for 6th. Steve Poremba came in with a 74 to take the 10th spot.

The team competition was a 1 BB Gross & 1 BB Net combined event today. Nick Desjardins team from Nashua came in at 13 under par to take first place. Nick’s team mates were Maurica Smith, Jeff Hill, & Mark Cormier. The team from Derryfield led by Cory Mansfield came in at 12 under par to take the 2nd spot in the team competition. Cory’s team consisted of Scott Kenniston, Dan Arvanitis, & Chris Stamoulis. Three teams, Rochester/Smestad, Laconia/Wilkins/ & Arvanitis/SNHU all came in at minus 11 to tie for 3rd.

Next week the NHC Professionals travel to North Conway CC for their annual Chapter Championship. 41 pros are signed up to play in the premier event of the season. This will be the 42 consecutive year this championship will be played at NCC.
