The NHC/NEPGA Pro am series made their way to Wentworth by the Sea on the blustery cool Monday in May. New England weather has been just that this spring, it actually feels like winter some days, and today was just that. The sun was shining, but don’t let that fool you. With the temperature hovering around 50 and the wind blowing 20 to 25 mph, with gust of 40 mph, it felt like 30 degrees on the course. Obviously scoring was going to be difficult in these weather conditions and for the most part the wind won.
The Professional division saw Jay Pollini of Ridgewood CC come in with a 74 to take the top spot on the challenging day. New comer from Nashua CC, Taylor Stout, Ryan Peffer of Lynx and Jim Gunnare of Whip Poor Will all came in with 75’s to tie for the 2nd spot. Brett Smestad of Rochester, Dan Kish of Atkinson, and Greg Sandell of The Golf Club of NE came in with a 76’s to tie for 5th place. There was a 3 way tie for the 8th spot with the score of 77. Sam Cody of Stonebridge, Brian Moskevich of Concord, and Rico Riciputi of Wentworth by the Sea came in with those scores.
Todays team format was 1 BB Gross & 1 BB Net combined. The team from Rochester led by PGA Professional Brett Smestad came in with a great score of 10 under 130. His team consisted of Mike Mahan, Steve Smestad, and Terry Large. The team from Wentworth by the Sea, lead by PGA Professional Rico Riciputi, came in at 5 under par 135 to take the 2nd spot. His team was made up of Scott Gray, Gerry Quirk, and Lex Scourby. They were tied at 5 under with the team from Nabnasset led by PGA Professional Dan Gillis with teammates Vinno Villano, BOb Lailer, and Kevin Anderson.
Thank you to everyone that toughed out the conditions today to play in this event. Hopefully next year the wind will blow only 10mph.
Next week the circuit heads to Concord CC with 35 teams scheduled to play.
