The NHC/NEPGA Pro am series stopped at Pease Golf Course this week to play the Pro Senior Championship. Thirty-three teams (132 players) joined the fun to compete in the Championship Event. Team format today is 2 BB Gross or 2 BB Net. The Gross score will decide the NHC/NEPGA Pro Senior Champions.
The pro contest saw Sam Cody of Stonebridge shoot a 6 under 65 to take the top spot. He made 8 birdies in his round offset by 2 bogies. Bill Andrews of Portsmouth CC shot a 1 under 70 to come in 2nd. Bill made eagle on the par 5 2nd and the drivable par 4 8th. Lucas Langelier of Cochecho, Matt Arvanitis of SNHU, and Dan Wilkins of Laconia shot even par 71 to end up tie for 3rd. Jay Pollini of Ridgewood and Brett Smestad of Rochester came at 1 over 72, that gave them a tie for 6th. Jim Gunnare of Whip Poor Will shot 74 to place 8th, Steve Poremba of Derryfield shot 75 to come in 9th, and tying for 10th place with 76’s was Dan Kish of Atkinson and Todd Rollins of Laconia.
The 1 BB Gross saw the team from Portsmouth led by Bill Andrews, with his team of Craig Steckowych, Chris Pollet, and Mike Facteau shot 12 under 130. They had a great start with Facteau making eagle on the par 5 1st hole and then Andrews did the same on the par 5 2nd. They ended up 10 under on the front, but they slowed down on the back with a 2 under for the total of 12 under. Second place went to the team of Matt Arvanitis representing Derryfield CC with team DanArvanitis, Sean Lacey, and Lance Pelley. They came in at 11 under.
The 1 BB Net the team from Den Brea led by Sam Read came in with a 17 under par 125 to tie for top honors. His team consisted of Gary Mercier, Roland Cullen, and Brian Stewart. The other team that came in at 125 Net was the team from Keene led by Eric Sandstrum with teammates Al Powers, Scott Olmstead, and Joe Tolman. Each team had one of the amateur players shoot 1 under par 70’s. For Den Brea it was Roland Cullen and for Keene it was Joe Tolman.

Next week the PGA Professionals travel to North Conway CC for their annual Chapter Championship. It is a 2 day stroke play event with the NHC Champions and Senior Champions will be crowned. This will be the 44th consecutive year of playing the Championship at North Conway.
