Boylston, Mass. – The New England PGA Section has been named the recipient of the 2026 Herb Graffis Award, one of the PGA of America’s highest honors recognizing a Section’s tireless dedication to growing the game of golf and advancing impactful player-development programming within its communities.

Presented annually to one of the PGA of America’s 41 Sections, the Herb Graffis Award celebrates outstanding commitment to participation growth, inclusion and community engagement. The New England PGA Section earned the distinction for its broad and measurable impact delivered through PGA REACH New England, the Section’s 501(c)(3) charitable foundation.

Led by President Joanne Flynn, PGA, and Executive Director Mike Higgins, the New England PGA Section reaches thousands of individuals each year through inclusive, community-based programs centered on youth development, Veteran engagement, and welcoming new and diverse participants to the game of golf.

Signature initiatives such as the New England PGA Junior TOUR, PGA Jr. League, and Drive, Chip & Putt provide clear, accessible pathways for young golfers throughout the region. The Section has also emerged as a national leader in Veteran outreach through PGA HOPE New England, OPERATION: PlayDay, the New England Veteran Series, and its Sets Fore Vets initiative, which helps provide Veterans with golf clubs and equipment—removing barriers to entry and empowering them to get involved in the game. Together, these programs use golf as a powerful tool for rehabilitation, connection and overall well-being.

A strong commitment to inclusion is reflected in programs including the Women’s Networking Summit and Series, Special Olympics skills competitions, and meaningful partnerships with educational institutions and community organizations. Strategic tracking of participation, engagement and outcomes ensures measurable, sustainable impact across all initiatives, while robust partnerships and media visibility continue to set benchmarks for growth and engagement.

“This award is a tremendous honor and a reflection of the passion and purpose behind everything we do through PGA REACH New England,” said Michael Packard, PGA, Foundation Director. “Our professionals, volunteers and partners are deeply committed to using golf to positively impact lives, and this recognition validates the meaningful work happening across New England every day.”

The New England PGA Section expressed immense pride in receiving the Herb Graffis Award, underscoring the collective efforts of PGA Professionals, staff, volunteers and supporters who help bring its mission to life.

“We are incredibly proud to be recognized by the PGA of America with the Herb Graffis Award,” said Mike Higgins, Executive Director of the New England PGA Section. “This honor belongs to our PGA Professionals and partners who continuously show up for their communities. Through PGA REACH New England, we are not just growing the game — we are creating opportunities, fostering inclusion and changing lives throughout the Northeast.”

The Herb Graffis Award honors the New England PGA Section’s enduring dedication to community impact, innovation and leadership, and reinforces its commitment to expanding golf’s reach and relevance for future generations.
