The Championship kicks off Tuesday with 2 pools of NEPGA Professionals teeing off at their respective round 1 courses of either The Bay Club or The Kittansett Club. The second round will commence the next day, with the players swapping from Marion to Mattapoisett, and vice versa. Wednesday’s round will determine the final 60 golfers plus ties to compete in the Championship round on Thursday at the Bay Club.

This year’s event is the pinnacle of New England golf, as the Section Professionals seek to earn their ticket to the PGA Professional Championship which will be held from April 26-90, 2026 at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Oregon.

The New England PGA Professionals are excited to take their talents to Buzzards Bay after a long Labor Day weekend. The Bay Club and Kittansett Club are ready to invite all Professionals and spectators into their facilities to witness an unforgettable event.

The Bay Club Mattapoisett sits just below the entrance to Cape Cod and opened their doors with open arms to the NEPGA as first time hosts to this year’s Championship. The deceptive wide fairways builds the golfer’s confidence, but this is a true approach-shot golf course, and one misplaced shot on the firm greens can lead to plenty of 3-putts. Being hosts of the NEPGA Pro-Assistant Championship for 18 years and counting, their close relationship and support for the Section made the decision easy.

“It’s that balance of beauty and bite that makes the Bay Club so special,” said Bay Club Head Golf Professional, Ben Egan, PGA. “Supporting the NEPGA has always been important to our staff and members, and we’re honored to deepen that relationship by hosting the Section’s premier championship”.

Meanwhile, the Kittansett Club in nearby Marion offers a historical experience, with its seaside holes by Buzzards Bay and challenging winds. Renowned across the section and at one point listed as one of the top 100 golf courses in the USA, it is hard to find an NEPGA Professional not excited to compete at the Kittansett Club.

“This event has such a long and rich history”, said Kittansett Head Golf Professional, J.P. Connelly, PGA. “This is the largest scaled professional event that we’ve had at Kittansett, and I know that we’re thrilled to have it…to think that what we’re competing for is the biggest stage for a New England [PGA] Professional is just tremendous.”

Previous champions return to the field for the 105th NEPGA Section Championship in hopes to grab another Mahan Trophy on their mantle include Rich Berberian Jr., PGA (Vesper CC, ’14, ’15, ’18, ’21, ’23), Frank Dully, PGA (Kernwood CC, ’06), Liam Friedman, PGA (Wollaston GC, ’17, ’22), Kirk Hanefeld, PGA (Life Member, ’00, ’01, ’03), John Hickson, PGA (Northport GC, ’95, ’11), Chip Johnson, PGA (Hatherly GC, ’02), Ed Kirby, PGA (The Aquidneck Club, ’12, ’24), and Shawn Warren, PGA (Bates College, ’13. ’19, ’20). The tournament offers 13 qualifying spots (not including Rich Berberian who is exempt) in the 2026 PGA Professional Championship, adding an extra layer of intensity to the competition.

The 105th Section Championship is supported both nationally & locally by Corebridge Financial, Rolex, Club Car, Golf Channel, Gallagher, Titleist/FootJoy, TaylorMade, Nike, Callaway, Ahead, Stanley, Baystate Financial, Stracka Line, Superior Communications, ShipSticks & the PGA Tour. Their commitment underscores the importance of this event in the golfing landscape.

The Bay Club Mattapoisett and the Kittansett Club are expecting a 3-day battle of the titans of the New England PGA. The professionals have been preparing and practicing for the most anticipated event of the year, the 105th NEPGA Section Championship will be one for the books.
