Prouts Neck Scholarship Pro Am
Thursday May 16
The Maine Chapter Pro Am season traditionally begins at Prouts Neck Country Club and is always special. Typically, the wind blows 30 mph off the ocean to the golfers left on the first hole. Not this year! It was 70* and dead calm without a ripple on the Atlantic. Players and teams enjoyed the beautiful weather and played some great golf.
Falmouth Club and the Woodlands Club teams tied for 1st place with scores of 13 under par 127. Sean Barret PGA of Falmouth CC team of Matt Sowles, Alban Michaud, Tony Robb and Luke Clafflin PGA of the Woodlands Club and his team of Chris King, Chris Holdredge, Jon Koperniak took home first place. One shot back at 12 under par 128 were the teams from Riverside led by Jim PGA and Sean Barret’s PGA Webhannet team.
On the Pro side there was a 4-way tie for top honors. Luke Clafflin The Woodlands Club, Eric Higgins Webhannet each shot 2 under par 68 along with Joe Finemore Portsmouth CC and Matt Arvanitis Southern N.H. University.
The Senior competition was won by Sean Barret’s 75 one shot better than Tee N Tee’s David Grygiel.
There were only 2 professional skins! Paul Champagne’s 3 on the 6th hole and Scott Mann’s birdie 2 on the 17th hole.
There were no Gross Am skins so the Gross prize pool is added to the Net side. Tim Grace The Woodlands Club, John Collins Nonesuch River Club and Austin Elsmore each won a net skin worth $280 each.
Thank you to Prouts Neck Head Professional Chris Twomblay PGA and his staff for hosting the first Chapter Pro Am. We also want to thank Prouts Course Superintendant Piper for creating great playing conditions this early in the year!
We want to thank Callaway and Erin Henderson for sponsoring the event by providing balls to every player and adding to the prize pool. We also want to thank Craig Cowles and Boxto Golf. Boxto generously provided each player on the top three teams with a pair of Boxto Golf shoes. Boxto is a new golf shoe company that is bringing style and fashion to the golf show industry.
The Chapter’s next event is the Pro-Pro Championship May 29 at the Boothbay Harbor Club
