HYDE PARK, MASS. – The New England PGA hosted the third Stroke Play Series event of the season on Monday, July 21st at George Wright GC. Three NEPGA Professionals claimed a share of the first place spot shooting 3-under, 67s: Brendon Ray, PGA (Point Judith CC), Ed Kirby, PGA (The Aquidneck Club), and Jeff Seavey, PGA (Goose River GC). The day brought outstanding temperatures with some challenging winds as the group of 100 Professionals competed over 18 holes with Ray, Kirby, and Seavey taking home the title.

Ray opened the day with a birdie on the par-4 1st hole and went on to card two more birdies through the front nine to make the turn at 3-under. Ray evened out on the back with three birdies, a double-bogey on 13, and a bogey on 18 to finish at 3-under overall in the tie for first place.

Kirby also posted three birdies on the front nine, one on the par-3 4th hole and two more on the 8th and 9th holes, making the turn at 3-under. Another birdie on the par-4 10th hole moved him to 4-under and he held steady from holes 11 to 16 before a bogey on the par-3 17th hole put him back at 3-under overall.

Seavey also had a fantastic round, carding 5 total birdies on the day. He had a strong start with three birdies in a row on holes 2, 3, and 4. He made 6 straight pars before posting two more birdies on the par-4 11th and 12th holes. A tough hole on the par-3 17th hole set him back two strokes, giving him the final 3-under for a share of first place with Ray and Kirby.

Jeff Stewart, PGA (Sandbaggers Practice Range) claimed solo 4th place, just one stroke behind the leaders, shooting 2-under, 68 on the day. Stewart started the round strong with a birdie on the 1st hole. Two more birdies on holes 3 and 4 moved him to 3-under. He traded a bogey and birdie on holes 5 and 6 to make the turn at 3-under. Stewart parred all holes on the back 9 except for the par-4 12th hole which he bogeyed, putting him at 2-under overall to take home the 4th place spot.

Shawn Scott, PGA (Long Meadow GC) was the final player to come in at under-par. He finished the round at 1-under, 69. He carded 4 birdies on the day to finish in solo 5th place.
