Sam Read of Den Brae GC in Sanbornton, NH said he had never won an outright tournament in his Professional career. That statement can now be erased in a big way.  Read captured the New Hampshire Chapter of The New England PGA’s Individual Match Play Championship at The Golf Club of New England on Tuesday, an event which spanned over four months of the season.

Read’s impressive run pitted him up against many of NH’s top Professionals. He posted match victories against Jake Etherton of Manchester CC, NH’s top finisher at the New England PGA Championship, Danny Kish of The Indoor Golf Club who is currently #10 on the NH Player of the Year Points List, #7 Cory Mansfield of Derryfield, #1 Joe Finemore of Portsmouth, and in the semifinals, Brett Smestad of Rochester CC who was in a playoff for the NH Chapter Championship back in August.

The Final Four, Brett Smestad, Vince Molesky, Joe Finemore and Sam Read

Smestad edged Vince Molesky of Apple Hill in the semi-finals to reach the championship round. Molesky was 4 down after 9 holes but rallied to take the match all the way to #18. Smestad advanced to the semis with victories over Shaun Bishop of Candia Woods, and Mitch Jefferson of Rochester CC.

Joe Finemore took the consolation match to finish in 3rd place, good enough to push him back into the lead in the Davis and Towle Insurance Player of the Year points race with 3 events remaining.

Congratulations to our Final 4 who endured 36 holes at The Golf Club of New England, and  a big thanks to Greg Sandell, PGA Director of Golf and his staff for hosting us on a gorgeous fall day on NH’s Seacoast. Next up is the very popular Bald Peak Pro Am on October 7th.
