POCASSET, Mass. – The Cape Cod Chapter of The New England PGA kicked off their season in style yesterday, with 24 teams making their way to the beautiful Pocasset Golf Club for a day of Pro-Am competition.
Temperatures were low to begin the day, but the teams from Willowbend Country Club and Cape Cod National warmed things up with their blistering 5-under par scores to share the title of co-champions. Michael Vidal, PGA, led team Willowbend to an impressive back nine of 5-under that included two eagles in the 2 Best Ball of 4 team format. Zack Sweet, PGA, helmed the Cape Cod National crew that matched the winning mark of 5-under.
Sweet will hold temporary bragging rights over fellow Cape Cod National Professional Gregg Richbourg, as he and his Amateur teammates finished tied for third at 4-under par on the day, one shot out of first place. Also in a tie for third was the team from Furnace Brook Golf Club, who notched 6 birdies and an eagle in the team format with help from PGA Professional Tom Ellis.
A low individual professional contest was also held in conjunction with the Pro-Am, and Brendan Reilly, PGA emerged victorious as the only competitor in red figures, carding a 1-under par 71. Reilly carded 3 birdies on the round, including one of just three birdies that was made all day on the elusive Par 3 12th.
On behalf of the entire Cape Cod Chapter, thank you to Pocasset Golf Club for being fantastic hosts to start the season. Coming up next on the Cape Cod Chapter schedule is The Ridge Club Pro-Am on Wednesday, May 8th – to register click HERE!
