MARBLEHEAD, MA – Back on site for the first time since the New England PGA Championship in 2020, Tedesco Country Club proved to be a tough test yet again in the second Stroke Play Series event of the 2022 season. A pair of 69s, fired by Jeff Martin (Wollaston GC) & Rich Berberian Jr. (Vesper CC), dodged bullets throughout the afternoon to take the co-title of the event. With the co-champion finish, Berberian Jr. kept his Avidia Cup success rolling as the reigning champ from 2021.

Berberian came out firing to start the day. The early storyline quickly shifted from who may win the event, to who may have a shot at the course record. With four birdies on his front-nine, Berberian Jr. turned with a 4-under 30, and had sights set on how low he could take it. A bogey on the par-5 10th slow things a bit, but birdies on 14 & 17 leveled out the remainder of his round, finishing with 1-under par 69.

Also enjoying past success in Stroke Play events, Jeff Martin fired an equally impressive round. Two birdies out of the gate to start the round got Martin rolling in the right direction. A lone blemish on the short par-4 6th had Martin turn with a 1-under par 33. One birdie and one bogey on his back-9 finished his even keel round with a 1-under 69 as well. With the co-champion finish in the event, both Martin & Berberian Jr. each earned 465 points in the Avidia Cup Points Race.

Rounding out the top-5 were Liam Friedman (Wollaston GC), Chad Penman (Boothbay Harbor) & Michael Esworthy (Weston GC), who each shot 1-over par 71. Esworthy gave it a great late run, with 4 birdies in his last 6 holes. On the other two holes in that six-hole stretch, Esworthy had blemishes with two bogeys to offset a few of his birdies. If not for those blemishes, Esworthy would have secured a share of his first Stroke Play Series title of his young career.
