BROCKTON, Mass. – The New England PGA kicked off the 2022 season at Thorny Lea Golf Club on a sunny, brisk spring day in Brockton, Mass. 28 teams traveled to compete in challenging conditions for the first Section Pro-Am of the season.
Frank Dully, PGA of Kernwood Country Club took home first place in the Professional Division, shooting 74 (+4) on the day. Brendan Ray, PGA of Point Judith Country Club shot a 77 (+7) for second place. He was joined by Zachary Sweet, PGA of Cape Cod National who also shot a 77 over 18. Jeff Martin, PGA (Wollaston Golf Club), Thomas Rooney (LeBaron Hills Country Club), Todd Scarafoni (Bass Rocks Golf Club), Rich , PGA (Needham GC) and Tom Ellis, PGA (Furnace Brook Golf Club) tied for fourth place, shooting 78’s on the day.
In team play, Rusty Gunnarson, PGA of Rochester Country Club led his team to a first-place finish in the 2 best ball of 4, 1 Gross + 1 Net score, combined for a total score of 131 (-9). His team consisted of Jacob Pierce, Monte Marrocco and Dave Pierce Jr. Finishing behind them, tied for second place and shooting four-under (136) were teams from Point Judith Country Club and Hyannisport Club. Brendan Ray, PGA led his team from Point Judith which consisted of Bobby Leopold, Mike Chase, and Patrick Ford. Greg Carroll, PGA led the Hyannisport group of Mike Moran, Steve Tasho and Mike Manning.
The Section next hosts the first Stroke Play Series event of 2022 on April 19th at Newport National Golf Club in Middletown, R.I.
