The 83rd Rhode Island Open at Agawam Hunt in East Providence was tight through all three rounds, and fittingly ended in a playoff.  Troy Pare, PGA of Wannamoisett Country Club (RI) won the tournament after sinking a birdie on the first playoff hole, the 439-yard 18th Hole.  Pare, PGA finished the Rhode Island Open at -11 (199), including a blistering -7 (63) in Round One.  Richy Werensky of Orchards Golf Club (MA), who just turned pro two months ago after graduating from Georgia Tech, forced the playoff after shooting -5 (65) in Round Two and -4 (66) in Round Three.

Matt Doyle, PGA of The Misquamicut Club (RI) finished in third place with a score of -10 (200).  Last year’s Rhode Island Open champion, Shawn Warren, PGA of Falmouth Country Club (ME), finished tied for fourth place at -9 (67) with John Elliott of Shelter Harbor Golf Club (RI).  Charlie Blanchard of Wannamoisett Country Club had the best score among amateurs in the field.  Blanchard shot -6 (204), which was good enough to tie him for sixth place with Mike Van Sickle of Wexford, PA and Michael Carbone of Dennis Pines.
