RUMFORD, R.I. – The wind showed its teeth on Tuesday, April 29th at Wannamoisett Country Club for the New England Assistants’ Association (NEAA) Stroke Play #1 event. The day brought together a field of 18 players at one of the most beautiful and historical golf courses in New England.
The wind was blowing around 30-40 miles per hour, which on some holes was good and some were difficult to get onto the green especially the par-3 15th. Only 13 birdies were made throughout the day. Wannamoisett was averaging a score of 83. There were three birdies made on the par-4 11th.
Boston Golf Club’s Shamus Landers totaled three birdies on the day enroute to claiming the victory and shooting a 3-over 72. Ryan Riley from Golf Academy of New England was two shots off of Landers to record a 5-over 75. The top 6 players earned payouts at the end of the day.
Three players in the entire field won skins on the day, featuring Landers with two on 12 and 16. Aaron Walker of Worcester Country Club made a birdie on the fourth hole. Ferncoft’s David Hache claimed a birdie on the seventh hole.
A big thank you to everyone who participated, and a special thank you to Ed Clark, PGA to talking with the field following the event about what it means to be an Assistant Golf Professional.
Next up, the NEAA will be traveling to Maine to have the second Stroke Play event of the season at York Golf and Tennis on Tuesday, May 20th.
