WESTPORT, Mass.- The Rhode Island Chapter traveled to the Acoaxet Club on Wednesday where the players were met with fantastic views of the Atlantic Ocean at the par 70 9-hole layout. Rain threatened early in the round, but clear skies ultimately prevailed on what turned out to be a beautiful day.
Dan Shepherd of Fall River Country Club took home the low professional honors, carding a score of 1-over 71 and edging out LeBaron CC’s Tom Rooeny by a single shot. Shepherd’s round was anything but routine; he recorded seven birdies, six bogeys, a double bogey, and only four pars on his way to winning the event. He showed great resolve continuing to make birdies after multiple stretches of consecutive bogeys. Rounding out the top three in the Indy Pro competition was Acoaxet’s Brent Amaral who finished with a round of 3-over 73.
In the 2 BB of 4 Team Competition, LeBaron Hills and PGA Professional Tom Rooney won with a score of 7-under 133. He was joined by his amateur partners Diane Hugyo, Linda Grant, and Kara Buckley. LeBaron Hills narrowly edged out Bill Maguire, PGA and his team from Wanumetonomy Golf & CC who shot a score of 6-under 134.
The Rhode Island Chapter would like to thank the Acoaxet Club as well as Head Professional Brent Amaral, PGA, Superintendent Keith Kruger, and Clubhouse Events Manager Kellie Simmons!
