This Wednesday, the New England PGA Assistants’ Association started the season off with a visit to Cohasset Golf Club for the inaugural Skins Series event. Host PGA Professional Bryan Kienke welcomed the group to, possibly, Donald Ross’ first independent design.

As expected, the Assistants were greeted with prototypical April weather. Overcast skies followed for the afternoon with a high of 45 and gusts of 15-20 mph coming off the shores of Cohasset. These raw conditions produced greens that were rolling similar to a mid-July day. The greens played outstanding defense and allowed for just single-digit birdies made. Cohasset’s Kyle Schroeder, PGA took the title of Champion in the first-ever Skins Series event, highlighted by his birdie on hole 5.

Following the round, the players warmed up with a taco bar spread, which was enjoyed in conjunction to an open discussion with Kienke about his professional and personal progression throughout his time in the golf industry. During this discussion, Kienke mentioned topics such as merchandising, budgeting, mentoring, peer-to-peer discussions, ladies’ programs, and more. Kienke was heavily-involved in the Assistants’ Association during his time in the Philadelphia Section, progressing his way through each position on their Board of Directors.

This event makes the New England PGA Assistants’ Association optimistic for the future of the Association and pushes us to continue to improve and offer the best programs possible for our fellow Assistants and Associates in the New England Section.

Finally, we’d like to sincerely thank the entire staff at Cohasset Golf Club. The course was in phenomenal shape, and the golf staff was incredibly welcoming and accommodating. The food and beverage staff offered top-notch service with a relaxing atmosphere. Thank you to everyone at Cohasset for hosting the first NEPGA Assistants’ Association Skins Series event. The Association would like to also thank all Assistants and Associates that participated in the event and we hope to see more faces in the coming events.

As a reminder, don’t forget to sign up for our remaining Skin Series event. Our next event is on Thursday, April 27th at Dedham Country & Polo Club, designed by the famed Seth Raynor.
