BREWSTER, Mass. — The New England PGA Cape Cod Fall Festival continued at Cape Cod National on Thursday, where Rochester Country Club PGA Professional Brett Smestad swept the team and individual titles.
Smestad and his amateur partners from Rochester, Troy Joncas, Stacy Levesque and Mike Mahan, eked out a one-stroke win in the two-best-ball-of-four (one gross, one net) team competition at 10-under, clipping Hatherly CC, led by Chip Johnson, PGA, which finished at 9-under. Wollaston GC, Point Judith CC, and Braintree Municipal tied for third at 8-under par in the team competition.
Rochester’s team win wasn’t the only highlight of the day for Smestad. He shot 1-over on his own ball to win the individual professional competition as well. Smestad carded three birdies in a 1-under par front nine and added another birdie on the back to cruise to a 73, edging Jeff Martin, PGA (Wollaston GC) and Brendon Ray, PGA (Point Judith CC) by a shot.
Rick Durocher, PGA (Cyprian Keyes) and Ryan Train, PGA (Tedesco CC) tied for fourth at 3-over par. Cape Week wraps up on Friday at the Wianno Club.
